As the elections 2024 phase 4 unfolds, the country witnessed political fervour amidst violence between Trinamool Congress and BJP supporters in Bengal, and confrontations between YSRCP and TDP followers in Andhra Pradesh. This phase of the elections spans 96 Parliamentary Constituencies across 10 states and union territories. Additionally, all 175 seats of the Andhra Pradesh State Legislative Assembly and 28 seats of the Odisha State Legislative Assembly are being contested simultaneously. In a strategic move to bolster voter turnout, the Commission has extended polling hours in specific assembly segments of 17 Parliamentary Constituencies in Telangana, from 7 am to 6 pm.
Elections 2024 Phase 4 Facts
The fourth phase of the Lok Sabha Elections has an impressive lineup of 1717 candidates from 10 states and union territories vying for votes. On average, each Parliamentary Constituency sees 18 candidates contesting. To manage the polls, over 19 lakh polling officials have been deployed across approximately 1.92 lakh polling stations to accommodate the needs of more than 17.7 crore voters.

The voter demographics are balanced, with 8.97 crore male and 8.73 crore female voters eligible to cast their ballots in this phase. The states and union territories in the fray include Andhra Pradesh with 25 constituencies, Telangana with 17, Uttar Pradesh with 13, Maharashtra with 11, Madhya Pradesh and West Bengal each with 8, Bihar with 5, Odisha with 4, and Jammu and Kashmir with just 1 going to the polls.
In this phase of voting, Andhra Pradesh will also choose representatives for the 175-seat state assembly, while Odisha has 28 legislative assembly seats up for grabs. High-profile candidates in the fray include Samajwadi Party Chief Akhilesh Yadav vying for a seat in Kannauj, Trinamool Congress's Mahua Moitra contesting from Krishnanagar, AIMIM Chief Asaduddin Owaisi making his bid in Hyderabad, and Congress's Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury fighting in Berhampore.
Lok Sabha polls in India, unfolding in seven phases, will conclude on June 1 and the votes will be counted on June 4.
