A few days back, in Kerala, a Class 10 girl student was humiliated by religious leaders for walking up to the stage to receive an award. The Samastha Kerala Jamiyyathul Ulama (SKJM) and its leader MT Abdulla Musliyar has been facing the heat for gender insensitivity and misogyny. But this is not the first time such an incident has been reported in our country. Gender-based violence and discrimination are one of India’s biggest concerns.
