The government of India is in the midst of a massive storm following its decision to hike the Goods and Services Tax (GST) on numerous items. The 47th GST Council meeting, which was held last month, made many recommendations related to the GST rates on goods and services, which the government implemented on July 18.
On July 1 2017, when GST was launched in India, it was touted to be a pro-people reform. The government told the public that the consumer was at the centre of this reform. MSMEs were told that they would gain significantly because of GST.
