On Wednesday, a day before the completion of his Rajya Sabha term, senior BJP leader Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi, the lone Muslim in Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s cabinet, resigned as the Union Minority Affairs Minister. With his resignation, for the first time in BJP’s history, it has no MP belonging to the Muslim community.
India has over 200 million Muslims, which is nearly 15 percent of its total population. Yet, the BJP, which boasts of being the largest political party in the world, doesn’t have a single Muslim MP amongst its hundreds of MPs. Is the BJP deliberately keeping the Muslims away?
